Paintings for Livada: Romania Hillside with Tree

When I was on the missions trip with Grace Church serving the Livada Orphan Care ministry in Romania, the beauty of the country inspired me. I had the idea that when I got home to Arkansas I could paint these Romanian scenes and donate the paintings to Livada to raise money for orphan sponsorship.

This scene is one of many beautiful landscapes I was able to enjoy on our drive to serve for the day (in the kids camp, the gypsy village, and baby hospital). The air was fresh, the day warm but with a breeze, and the clouds were full and moving. There were so many open fields, so when I saw this tree, I thought it a nice composition to have the lone tree in front.

Arkansas Life “Sketchbook Feature”

I was contacted by Jordan Hickey, senior editor at Arkansas Life about interviewing for the Arkansas Sketchbook feature for August 2015. He had come across some of my work online – specifically Developed and Less Finished: Maintaining Life and thought it would be a good fit for the Arkansas Life A&E section. He would interview me and would feature a large image of one piece along with a short bio.

“Do you think that’s something you’d be interested in?”

Of course I would! How exciting! Who does that? What artists’ work gets viewed and then is asked to interview and be featured in a well-known publication? Me!!!!

We scheduled a phone interview and talked for about an hour. The next thing I knew I was the feature artist in Arkansas Life for August 2015.

At the end of the article, there was even mention of the Wildwood art show! “Be sure to head over to Wildwood Gallery at Little Rock’s Wildwood Park for the Arts later this month, where LK will be exhibiting Developed and Less Finished: Maintaining Life from Aug. 21 to Sept. 20.”

There were so many beautiful landscapes. There were times when we were driving from the day camp to the next place we were going to serve and I would just look out the window and gasp. The place where we were in Romania (Târgu Mureș) was hilly and full of these breathtaking countryside views.

Paintings for Livada: Hay Day

When I was on the missions trip with Grace Church serving the Livada Orphan Care ministry in Romania, the beauty of the country inspired me. I had the idea that when I got home to Arkansas I could paint these Romanian scenes and donate the paintings to Livada to raise money for orphan sponsorship.

Our group went to the restaurant called Restaurant Pestisorul de Aur. We explored the site and found beautiful scenery and even some wildlife. We also took a group picture.

Hanging Art with Kelsey

Kelsey texted me to come to Grace Church and bring some art to hang. M and Ein came along to help. We looked through each others work and started placing our work against the walls to see what would look good where. The wall was such a dark brown that only certain pieces worked in the space.

We shifted and looked, shifted and looked and so on until we were satisfied of what piece we wanted where.

We pulled out the hammer and nails and just eyeballed it. We didn’t use a tape measure or a level…basically a big “hanging art no no.” Why didn’t we call Ephraim!

All of the work went well together in the end!

Kelsey was a lot of fun to hang art with. She was just really relaxed and open to many different options. It made things very easy.

Thanks to M for driving, carrying art, taking pictures, and general advice. Thanks to Ein for sniffing everything and being cute.
